River Dart Country Park
Year 5 and 6 children had the most amazing time in Devon during the last week of term!
We were greeted by the activity centre staff from the moment we drew up in the coach, and from then on, they provided us with fun, challenges and lots of laughter over the four and a half days we were there.
Children were encouraged to try canoeing, kayaking, abseiling, beam walking, crate stacking, raft building, caving, high ropes and den building. Many fears were faced and overcome (not only by the children but also by the EPA staff who took part!).
The food was fantastic, with pizza to greet us upon arrival and three large meals a day to fully fuel us for the day’s activities. The dormitories were large and comfortable too, and the children enjoyed the independence of getting themselves ready for bed, washing (mainly…) looking after their belongings and sharing their space with friends for the week.
We’re sure that lots of memories were made that will last a lifetime, both for the children and staff. It was a pleasure to spend the week with them and get to know them in a different context to that of school.
Reviews from the pupils:
‘The high ropes were brilliant because it was cool seeing all the views of the park.’ Will
‘It was really good because you could learn so many new skills.’ Josh
‘The beams were great because I managed to do ‘heads shoulders knees and toes’ while I was balancing so high up!’ Lottie
‘The food was amazing!’ Madison
